As a parent, the most special gift I have ever been given is that of fathering a child.  The original miracle of miracles, wonder of wonders is that awesome power of love and responsibility that overtakes your entire being when you hold your child in your arms for the very first time.

Make no mistake, this is not only about a child to whom you have biologically contributed, rather this is about any parent or adult who has chosen to bear, adopt, raise or otherwise become the primary care giver of a child perfect or ill, of any age, shape, size, color, race or gender.

If you have ever lost a child, brother, sister, niece or nephew whether prior to birth or due to a horrific accident, drug overdose, war, disease, gun violence crime, natural disaster or any of a number of otherwise preventable (or someday, hopefully to be) events, then you know of the pain about which I write.
